Located 4 hours from Arequipa, the Colca Canyon is considered one of the deepest canyons in America (about 4160 meters deep) and an extension of approximately 100kms. It is home to a great diversity of plants and animals, being the most outstanding and regularly seen animal: the Andean Condor, a flying bird considered the heaviest and largest in the world.
Approximately at 07:30 hrs, we start the trip to the Colca Canyon. We will pass by the National Reserve of Aguada Blanca and Salinas, where you can appreciate majestic vicuñas, South American camelid, national symbol of Peru. We will make a stop at Patapampa at 4,800 meters above sea level, the highest part of the tour, to observe the western mountain range and volcanoes. Approximately at 13:30hrs, we will arrive at our hotel to leave our things and have lunch. After lunch, we will take our transport that will take us to the ranch where the horses are located in Yanque.
We will begin the horseback ride, passing through Yanque Square towards Cervantes Bridge which we will cross and ascend to the viewpoint of Q'ochapata to a strategic point to see the archaeological complex of Uyu-Uyu. We will continue the route towards the hanging tombs of Chininia; then we will return to Yanque where our transport will be waiting for us to take us back to Chivay. Overnight at hotel in Chivay.
Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will visit the Cruz del Condor viewpoint, where we will be able to appreciate the depth of the Colca Canyon and enjoy the flight of the Andean Condor. On the way back, we will visit the towns of Yanque, Pincholo and Maca.
After lunch, we will return to the White City of Arequipa where we will arrive at approximately 18:00hrs.
