Kayak in the magnificent Peruvian rivers, in the Highlands of the Andes with our professional equipment and support, run the classics: Apurimac, Tambopata, Colca and Cotahuasi Rivers. Combined with a taste of the Inca culture, during this trip you will visit the following places: Lima, Lunahuana Canete river, Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Tres Canones - Hacienda Puente Central, Chuquicahuana and Cusco - Machu Picchu.
Arrival in Lima. Transfer to Lunahuana (2 Hour trip), campsite, in the afternoon we will prepare for our next 3 day expedition on the Cañete River.
This morning, we will begin to climb the valley with our 4x4 vehicle until 3,800 masl. or 12,160 ft., during the trip, we will see some nice rapids down the river that we will run the next two days, after lunch we will begin to run the river, this time, we have class III rapids with some drops, campsite in the shore of the river. (The car will be with us the whole time).
Alter breakfast, we will continue paddlinig down the Cañete river, in the afternoon, we will arrive to Lunahuana, then we will take our car and go to a campsite on the beach, also we can enjoy some sea surfing there.
This day, we will drive our car south to Arequipa, arriving there in the afternoon, accommodations in a hotel.
In the morning, we will run the Chili river, is a narrow river with rapids class III and IV, in the afternoon we will take our car to Huambo (The begin of the magic Colca Canyon), arriving there in the night, campsite.
Early in the morning we load burros with our gear and begin the 15 kilometer hike down a narrow rugged trail to the river. The moderately difficult 7 hour downhill hike affords dramatic views of the canyon. In the late afternoon we reach the river and the small Indian settlement of Canco (population: 5 families) where we set up camp.
For the next 6 days, we negotiate the most difficult and inaccessible commercially run river canyon in the world. The scenery is magnificent with massive geologically twisted walls towering above the angry water. In many places giant boulders have fallen from the cliffs, littering the canyon floor and forming numerous long, steep, technical Class 4 and 5 rapids and at least one portage. The most difficult rapids come a few days into the expedition so there is time to develop the necessary teamwork in the rafts.
This morning we leave Colca Canyon and drive 3 hours back to Arequipa. We arrive at the hotel in the early afternoon.
This morning, we have our trip to Angostura, there we pass the famous Apurimac River, considered the largest point from the Amazonas river, campsite in the Angostura hot springs.
After we set up our campsite, we will take our kayaks and run the Alto Apurimac class II and III (4,100 masl. or 13,120 ft.), until the 3 Canyons, campsite in the afternoon.
We will continue running the Apurimac, for 3 more hours until the Hacienda Puente Lodge, the car will be there already, in the afternoon, we have a guided local villages visit (By horses), with our local guide, in the night, we will see some local traditions.
After breakfast, we will take our car to go Cusco, on the way we will drive close to the Urubamba Valley, there in Chuquicahuana, we will again put our Kayaks in the river to enjoy the magical class III-IV rapids. In the afternoon we will arrive in Cusco. Hotel.
This day we will visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas, after see the the Pisac market. We will also go to Huarnan for other nice class IV rapids on the Urubamba river, in the afternoon we will visit the Ollantaytambo Incas fortress, hotel in Ollantaytambo.
This morning, we will leave the kayaks and take the train to Machu Picchu, we will see the lost city of the Incas, go back to Cusco at night, transfer to the hotel.
DAY 20 CUSCO LIMA
At midday we have to go to the airport to take our flight to Lima, once there, transfer to our hotel, at night we will take our plane back home.
